Remembering a loved one

Honouring a loved one by supporting QNIS is a meaningful way to celebrate their life while creating a lasting legacy that supports the work of community nurses and midwives.

You might choose to make a donation in their memory, take part in a fundraising event, or collect donations in lieu of flowers – with all proceeds helping to advance our mission.

If you would like to explore this way of giving, we would love to hear from you. Please call us on 0131 229 2333 or get in touch, and we will be happy to guide you through the options.

Celebration Wall for Retired Queen’s Nurses

The Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland has a long history here at our offices on Castle Terrace. The traditional tenement building, built by architect Sir James Gowans in 1875, is not only a striking Edinburgh landmark, but it is also a key part of our heritage.

Many Queen’s Nurses learnt their skills in the rooms here, and some also lived here while they were studying. Whilst not every Queen’s Nurse was based in our building, it is important to all as the main office of the Institute in Scotland.

When our offices were refurbished at the end of 2015, Ros Barr, daughter of Queen’s Nurse Averil Barr, offered her services to design a new foyer as a tribute to her late mother. As part of that design, she incorporated a Celebration Wall so that retired Queen’s Nurses could have their names inscribed, allowing their services to nursing to be remembered and celebrated by all who pass through the doors of number 31. The first name added was that of Averil herself.

This unique opportunity is open to all Retired Queen’s Nurses, who trained prior to 1969. If you would like to have your name added to the Celebration Wall, or add the name of a Queen’s Nurse that has passed away, please get in touch to discuss this with us by calling the office on 0131 229 2333 or by contacting us.

We ask for a minimum donation of £100 to cover the cost. However, if you wish to donate more, the gift you give us will contribute further to our wider work.
