Our purpose
We are passionate about community nursing and midwifery and about the vital role of these professions in delivering high quality health and social care in Scotland. Our founding charter clearly states that our aim was to care for the most disadvantaged, the term at that time being the ‘sick poor’. Today, we continue to increase our efforts to put addressing inequalities at the heart of our work.

Our purpose is the improvement of health with a focus on prevention and social justice. We do this through supporting nurses and midwives whose roles within Scotland’s communities enable individuals, families and communities to maintain or improve their health.
We provide a range of professional development opportunities which enable participants to strengthen their abilities to advocate for those who are marginalised and excluded
We make awards for long service, for registered nurses and midwives who have worked in community settings for more than 21 years
We promote community nursing and midwifery careers so students and qualified staff can see the extraordinary range of opportunities in community and primary care
We advocate for community nursing and midwifery to improve access to high quality professional development opportunities and to promote understanding of the particular contribution these professions make to health and social care provision in Scotland
We provide support and friendship to retired Queen’s Nurses who trained prior to 1969, remaining proud of their legacy of excellence, compassion and commitment.
